HexClad 7-Piece Hybrid Stainless-Steel Cookware Set with Lids and Wok

Hexclad is a very high-end, expensive brand of hybrid cookware, and is known to be used by none other than famous Michelin Star chef and world renowned TV celebrity, Gordon Ramsey.

Now, Gordon Ramsey can probably afford to buy any cookware he likes and isn’t going to settle for second best. But what about the rest of us? Is Hexclad cookware truly worth the additional cost?

Hexclad Reviews

That’s what this article is going to explore. We’ll kick things off by bringing you an overview of the brand and explaining what exactly is meant by “hybrid” cookware.

We’ll then run through several aspects and features of Hexclad cookware before spelling out their various pros and cons.

We’ll then finish up by rounding up with a conclusion. At this point, you will be in a position to judge whether Hexclad cookware is for you. Please feel free to scroll ahead to any section that catches your attention.

Overview Of The Brand

Now, Hexclad is quite a newcomer to the scene and was only founded as recently as 2017 by Danny Winer and Cole Mecray.

While both professional and at home chefs end up replacing their pots and pans on a frequent basis, it was the vision of Winer and Mecray to produce a far more durable set of pots and pans that could last a lifetime.

And it’s fair to say that they have succeeded. Hexclad has a unique design, and therefore unique properties that provide a level of durability that you just don’t see in other brands.

Their products are designed right here in the USA, at their headquarters in Los Angeles to be more specific, and are manufactured and imported from abroad.

What Exactly Is Hybrid Cookware?

Hexclad’s hybrid cookware is unique, featuring patented cookware technology that remains unrivalled to this day. It’s described as “hybrid” because it’s in the unique position of being both stainless steel and non-stick, effectively providing you with the best of both worlds.

This effect is achieved through a patented laser-etched hexagon design and tri-ply construction on the pan surface. This way, you basically get stainless-steel peaks that protect the non-stick valleys.

And this serves to give the pan properties unique to Hexclad, which we’ll break down over the remainder of this article.

Product Offering

Since Hexclad products are best known for their browning and searing, as you may expect, you see a lot more frying pans on offer with the leading online retailers. But we can also confirm that they also offer saucepans as well.

In summary, their product offering is fairly wide-ranging, including numerous frying pans and woks of various sizes and the same goes for their saucepans.

We were also pleased to learn that these pots and pans are usually supplied with perfectly fitting lids. And this is great because it means that when you are cooking with a lid on, all that lovely moisture is retained, to keep your food tasting scrumptious, rather than too dry.

The Hexclad range is very heavy-duty and, without a doubt, truly built to last. This is thanks to both the tri-ply construction, incorporating stainless steel, aluminum and non-stick materials.

It’s incredibly scratch resistant, and this means that it’s perfectly safe to be cleaned with abrasive scouring pads or even the likes of steel wool to get rid of any food that has dried on.

But that’s not all. Even the use of metal utensils won’t ever damage the pans. You could even get away with using a pizza cutter on it to slice up omelettes and the like. The pan will not scuff or wear.

Heat Conduction And Retention

One of the great things about Hexclad cookware is not only just how quickly it heats up, but also how evenly it heats your food.

There’s no need to ever set a really high heat - its aluminum core is perfectly situated to excel at low, medium and medium to high heat. And this heat sure goes a long way. It’s quicker at boiling water than its counterparts.

But that’s not all. When taken off a hob, it retains heat incredibly well, and it will continue to keep your food warm for you on the pan until you are ready to serve it up. And it achieves this better than most other pans on the market.

Searing And Browning

Since much of their product offering comes in the form of frying pans, it’s certainly worth examining how they perform when it comes to searing and browning.

We weren’t disappointed in this regard. It gives great results.

However, it doesn’t quite beat the performance of fully clad stainless steel in this regard. Although it can deliver a good sear on your meats, it doesn’t make for a great sear.

Non-Stick Performance

We’re going to level with you here. Sure, there’s a non-stick surface to the pan. But it’s perfectly possible for food to stick to the stainless-steel etching on the pan’s surface.

But, this is easily remedied, simply by carrying out the same basic measures you would do on other pans. Don’t set the heat too high, season the pan before use, and use a spray of cooking oil beforehand (you won’t need much).

Is It Safe To Put In The Oven?

A popular cooking function with many chefs is that you can fry foods in a pan for a short time before then placing the pan into the oven for roasting and baking, without having to empty it into a separate container.

And this is something you can achieve with Hexclad cookware, because it’s 100% safe to put in the oven up to a temperature of a whopping 500 degrees Fahrenheit.

Cleaning And Maintenance

For best results, we would recommend treating your Hexclad pans as you would if they were made from stainless steel. You should wash them after every use. You can put them in the dishwasher without worry about them getting damaged. And you should also season it periodically.

Despite the non-stick properties of Hexclad cookware, you sometimes do still get food sticking to the stainless-steel etching of the pan. But this is very easily remedied, and comes off easily.

Other Features

Although the handles of Hexclad pots and pans are all metal, these do not conduct heat the way the interior of the pans do, and are 100% cool to the touch and are perfectly safe to handle. And you won’t have to worry about sourcing a silicone handle cover.

Warranty Details

One of the more reassuring aspects of Hexclad cookware is that it comes backed not by a one or two-year warranty, but by a lifetime warranty, which is pretty impressive. You simply do not get that with other brands, even with some cast iron cookware brands.

Value For Money?

For the regular Joe, Hexclad cookware is just too expensive. If you are a devoted foodie however, it’s a dream come true.

And if you opt to pay in installments, it becomes considerably more affordable.

If you cannot afford to replace all your cookware with Hexclad alternatives in one go, you could consider replacing each pan one by one as they begin to wear.

Customer Ratings & Reviews

Online customer ratings can be very telling and are a good way of assessing how well a product goes down with customers before you decide to buy it yourself.

Hexclad has received very positive customer ratings and reviews across a selection of online sources, including with the leading online retailers.

(However, if you click on “Check Price” the product page on Amazon will open on another tab, and you can see there that you have the option of paying in installments, upon approval for the Amazon Rewards Visa Card.)

  • It can be quite heavy and cumbersome, with the 12-inch pan weighing in at 4 pounds

Wrap Up

So, if you’ve been paying attention, you’ll have noticed that Hexclad sure has a lot of positives, and very few negatives. The only real negative is the hefty price tag, which some would say is extortionate.

But for the real foodies and chefs among you, you may well decide that it’s 100% worth every cent.

Cooking at anything other than a high heat may take some getting used to for some, but who are we to argue against the likes of top chef Gordon Ramsey who uses this cookware in his academy.
